Her description of these popular varieties and their best use in various recipes inspired us to grow and cook our own. Hilary’s live cooking demonstration of Bruschetta and […]

People have been gardening by the phases of the Moon since the ancient Romans. They associated the waxing and waning tides with the phases of the Moon. While the visual changes in the phases of the Moon have no direct effect on gravity, they do coincide with the position of the Earth in relationship to the Moon. That proximity does affect the Moon’s gravitational pull on the Earth. The Moon’s gravitational pull causes the Earth’s tides to rise and fall. Plants use gravity and other environmental clues to guide their growth. Scientists call this gravitational effect on plant growth gravitropism. In the early 1970’s WUMCO Help was still in its infancy. The seeds had been planted, but Jane (Bast) Stearns and Beulah (Clarke) Harper recognized early on that their venture would need widespread community support to get off the ground. They reached out to area churches and civic organizations to ask for assistance. Overwhelmingly, the responders saw no need for a HELP organization. However, after witnessing the need firsthand,

On the first day of April each year, many of us celebrate April Fools’ Day. But what is the origin of this tradition? Celebrated for several centuries by many cultures, the exact origin of the event is a mystery.

Some historians believe April Fools’ Day pranks date back to France in 1582, when the French switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council […]
