Love History? If you want to learn and share Poolesville History, Historic Medley District (HMD) has the perfect volunteer opportunity for you! HMD wants to open the John Poole House (JPH) during select hours on Saturdays and Sundays to attract visitors attending Locals Farm Market. They need volunteer docents to staff JPH and recount the history of the building and grounds. Prior skills are not necessary, and guides do not need to be costumed.

Historic Medley District was formed as a nonprofit in 1974 to protect local historic buildings and landmarks. HMD would like to expand the hours that their three sites (Old Town Hall, Seneca Schoolhouse and John Poole House) can be open to the public during scheduled events, such as Heritage Days, Poolesville Day, HMD summer Community Picnic, the town Christmas Celebration events, and Open House dates. Volunteers may also be needed in some other special areas like technology, marketing, and fundraising.

HMD is a great place for history-minded students to amass some SSL (Student Service Learning) hours. There is no minimum time commitment for a senior to volunteer. If you are interested in learning and passing along Poolesville history, please contact Maureen O’Connell:
