This past Saturday Poolesville Area Scout Troops 496 and 2027 volunteered their time to collect food donations for WUMCO to distribute. Previously, Scouting for Food was a once yearly volunteer service for the scouts.
The ever-increasing need for food in our local area has become so critical that this Spring Scouting for Food was generously offered by the scouts. They hit the streets on Saturday morning and collected thousands of pounds of food donations.
Many of us, unused to the spring collection, were either out of town or forgot to put out our donations resulting in a much smaller total than usual. But it is not too late!
You can still participate and help WUMCO meet the local need for food. Bring your donations to the WUMCO pantry at 17821 Elgin Rd. (109) 9:00 AM-Noon, M-F; the collection box at Drs. Pike & Valega, 19601 Fisher Ave., 24/7; or Poolesville Town Hall, 19721 Beall St., M-F, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Also ask your local church.
Foods most needed:
- Canned Veggies and fruits
- Soups
- Canned pasta (SpaghettiOs)
- Canned tuna, salmon and chicken
- Baking/Pancake mixes
- Pasta, rice and beans
The people in Poolesville are kind and generous and answer the call when there is a need. You can donate any time of the year. Remember your neighbors when you are doing your weekly grocery shopping. Look for the BOGOs or specials on those foods that are most needed and help WUMCO help others.
