Join the Hoewing family on July 1 at 7pm as they recall their family’s 60-year association with Poolesville and Montgomery County from the perspective of two generations. Ray, Reva, and Link will discuss the highly competitive politics, changing development and demographics of the town and county, and area businesses that were dominated by old family names like Jamison, Elgin, Selby, Kohlhoss, Titus, Glass and Dietrick.
Ray and Reva Hoewing moved to Poolesville in 1970 at the beginning of Ray’s extensive career at the Public Affairs Council and became involved in his church and the community. Ray was on the Boards of WUMCO and PACC. He was a co-founder of Helping Hands of Poolesville, and a past president of the Poolesville Elementary School PTA and PHS PTSA. He was a member of Rebuilding Together, and a volunteer for Hospice Caring. Ray was honored as the PACC 2009 Businessman of the Year and was the 2011 Poolesville Day Grand Marshall. Ray published poolesvilleonline.com for five years.
Reva raised 5 children and was an assistant in the schools until 1976 when she and PES teacher Barbara Choate opened Crafts-a-Plenty in its first location next to St. Peter’s Church. The store’s long-time location across from the old town hall was a fixture of Poolesville for forty-two years. She was also the administrator of Poolesvilleonline.com. She was honored by the Poolesville Commissioners with a Certificate of Achievement in 2019.
Their son Link has lived in the Poolesville area for much of the same period as Ray and Reva. He was in Poolesville town government in various capacities for 27 years, including 7 years as a commissioner. He helped write Master Plans for the town that helped shape its current parks system and pedestrian pathway system. He was an officer in the PTSA for 22 years and is a life member of the PTSA. He and his wife Fran raised 3 daughters in Poolesville all of whom attended Poolesville schools. He helped found Helping Hands and ran the WUMCO transportation program for many years. He too was Grand Marshall in 2015.
