Did you know that, since 2008, Maryland’s official exercise has been walking? Governor Larry Hogan issued a proclamation declaring October as “Walktober” and encouraging people of all ages to step out this Walktober to enjoy Maryland’s autumn beauty.
The month-long celebration includes Walking Wednesdays focused on pedestrian safety and Thursday Walkinars scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 14, 21 and 28, that will feature experts discussing ideas and innovations to promote walkable communities and expand pedestrian access, safety, and commuting options across the state. Details and registration are also available at mdot.maryland.gov/walktober.
