Lifting Up Our Community for Black History Month

In celebration of Black History Month, Poolesville Seniors is pleased to share with you the stories of once thriving Free Slave Communities in and around Poolesville. Perhaps you remember hearing the names: Big Woods, Jerusalem, Jonesville, Martinsburg, and Sugarland. Fortunately, two esteemed community historians chose to share their ancestors’ past contributions with our audience. Watch Pastor Chuck Copeland’s History of Martinsburg, and Mr. Skip Etheridge’s Sugarland Story on the Poolesville Seniors’ YouTube channel;

Be sure to keep an eye out on our Facebook and Website; Coming soon- an article series featuring the stories of a local Black family and their contributions to local history throughout the decades.
