In 2008, the Maryland governor issued a proclamation declaring October as “Walktober” and encouraging people of all ages to step out during Walktober to enjoy Maryland’s autumn beauty. Since then, Maryland’s official state exercise has been walking.

This year, the month-long celebration includes the 9th Annual Walk Maryland Day on Wednesday October 2nd. Thursday Walkinars scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to noon Oct. 6, 13, 20, and 27, will feature experts discussing pedestrian safety and ideas and innovations to promote walkable communities and expand pedestrian access, safety, and commuting options across the state.
