Poolesville Commissioners, Hosanna Community Church, Historic Medley District (HMD), Poolesville High School, PHS Black Student Union and Montgomery County Remembrance and Reconciliation Commission invite you to a Community Conversation Circle hosted by Montgomery County Lynching Memorial Project (MoCoLMP) at 6:30 p.m. on October 25th at Poolesville High School to discuss the installation of a historical marker to recognize the lynching of Mr. George Peck.
In 2019, Poolesville community members worked with the Montgomery MoCoLMP, to memorialize Mr. Peck, a young, lifelong, Black area resident denied justice and killed by a lynch mob in Poolesville in January 1880. MoCoLMP and local partners led a soil collection ceremony at the lynching site. This effort is part of a national movement, led by the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) in Montgomery, Alabama, to acknowledge our nation’s painful history and to encourage healing and racial reconciliation today.
Join this Conversation Circle to learn local history, converse with your neighbors, and share your perspective about this very local issue. For more information consult the flyer and » Lynchings: George Peck (montgomeryhistory.org)
