Ecuadorian American writer and author Karla Cornejo Villaviciencio has given readers the gift of sharing and understanding her own personal experiences as an undocumented immigrant from Ecuador. Cornejo Villaviciencio is one of the first undocumented immigrants to graduate from Harvard. This deeply personal story provides a portrait of our nation through the eyes of those who live in the shadows.
Cornejo Villaviciencio began her writing career as a teenager, reviewing jazz albums for a monthly magazine. When she first decided to write this novel just after the 2016 election, she was enrolled in DACA. She has since successfully obtained legal status and now lives in New Haven, Connecticut.
