Thank you to Kenny Sholes for another of his Ag Reserve Properties presentations. Those who follow Kenny’s monthly events are more than happy to follow him down any history “rabbit hole” he takes. The August evening started with a reflection: “Where have all the porches gone?” We saw a number of old photos of historic homes with prominent front porches that are now missing in current pics. One speculation was that the advent of air conditioning made the commodious front porch less necessary for warm weather entertaining.

Kenny also piqued our curiosity about period staircases beginning with an amazing photo, from a Vicksburg home, of a seemingly floating specimen with the graceful lines of a butterfly flight.

And finally, a civil war photo of the 20th Massachusetts Infantry band at Camp Benton, just outside of Poolesville, led Kenny to research on the home shown in the photo background.

If you missed the live presentation, you can watch the recorded event on our Facebook Live or YouTube channels.
