Join Jon Wolz for a Pop-Up Walk on July 5th @10:00am on the C&O Canal to the Catoctin Aqueduct and Culvert #82. We will begin at mile 50.89 on the C&O Canal, Lander Lock #29, and walk about one mile up the towpath stopping at the beautifully restored Catoctin Creek Aqueduct that crosses Catoctin Creek at mile 51.53. After viewing the aqueduct, we will continue to walk up the towpath to culvert # 82 at the Little Catoctin Creek at mile 52.51. At this location, the culvert has washed away and there is a wooden footbridge over the creek. The B&O stone railroad culvert can be seen at this location. Roundtrip walking is 3 and 1/4 miles.
Meet at Our Lady of Presentation Church 17320 Tom Fox Avenue (at Fisher Ave.) at 10:00 to form carpools. Drive to the Lander lockhouse #29, Jefferson, Maryland (approx. 3 miles north of Point of Rocks) at the C&O Canal mile marker 50.89. Drive time is 34 minutes and is 20 miles from Poolesville. Parking is limited.
