Thanks to Steve Vogel for his presentation that provided a great backdrop to his newest book THROUGH THE PERILOUS FIGHT: From the Burning of Washington to the Star-Spangled Banner. His visuals reanimated local area life from the early 1800’s. Participants became familiar with a time when rivers such as the Patuxent were navigable all the way to Bladensburg, and Rockville was a day’s horseback ride from the Capitol. His stories about the historical participants on both the British and American sides of the conflict provided great insight into their personalities and made the book a more compelling read. And for those fortunate to attend this in-person event, Steve kindly autographed his books.
