The Hammond-Harwood House Museum of Architecture and Early American Fine & Decorative Arts is celebrating its 1774 construction in Annapolis. In conjunction with the Maryland State Archives, the Museum will be marking the 60th Anniversary of the 1963 publication of its iconic cookbook, Maryland’s Way, The Hammond-Harwood House Cook Book with a Great Maryland Recipe Hunt through August 2023.
The Recipe Hunt seeks recipes that represent Maryland’s evolving cuisine as commonly made by Maryland families, whether your family’s ties to Maryland date back centuries or even just a few years. People have moved to Maryland from all over the world with their treasured recipes, using the local fare to make Maryland’s cuisine diverse and delicious.
The Great Maryland Recipe Hunt wants to hear about your memories of Maryland food and drink and the recipes that celebrate your family’s history & traditions within the great State of Maryland.
The Recipe Hunt hopes to collect a varied assortment of recipes that demonstrate the cultural diversity that has grown over the past 60 years since the publication of Maryland’s Way in 1963. These recipes will be preserved for future generations at the Maryland State Archives and will offer researchers opportunities to access them and analyze Maryland’s evolving 21st century cuisine.
Hammond-Harwood House expects to publish a new companion book in the Fall of 2024, that will examine the recipes included in that 1963 Maryland’s Way publication within the context of the early historic influences (Native American, African American, British, German and Jewish) that shaped early Maryland’s incredibly rich and diverse foundational cuisine.
