The art of Rockville artist Eric Mohn is the embodiment of patience and concentration. While still a teenager, Eric was left a quadriplegic after a 1963 car accident. He went on to graduate from Montgomery College in 1977 and proceeded to earn his bachelor’s degree from Saint Andrews Presbyterian College, in North Carolina.

Eric needed to learn how to adapt to his new limitations. He loved spending time painting and was determined to utilize the creative process still in him. which brought joy to himself and those around him. Eric learned to translate his vision with precise strokes by a brush held in his mouth. It usually took Eric about 2 weeks to complete one of his intricately detailed watercolor original paintings.

For Eric, it was always a family business. He loved painting and working in the business nearly every day, and many family members helped in any way they could. His wife often assisted him by taking photos from which he would create a painting.

Eric was one of the first and most successful handicapped watercolor artists in the country. Eric always drew a small crowd at the many arts & crafts shows where he sold his work over several decades. There are countless friends and admirers of his work who fell in love with his timeless renditions of American culture. From the Amish of Lancaster County (one of his all-time favorite subjects in his later years), to the beautiful renditions of historic homes.

Eric Mohn passed away in 2008 from injuries related to his accident, but he left behind a legacy of accomplishment and inspiration for all those who struggle with a disability.

We are so excited to have an original, framed watercolor by Eric, titled “Blue Farmhouse” (32 X 27) in the Poolesville Seniors online Heart and Soul Auction beginning February 11 and running through February 20th.
