Many thanks to Ralph Buglass for his fascinating presentation on the history of Sugarloaf Mountain and the surrounding area. Ralph told several stories of what might have been on the mountain including the ‘Automobile Objective” designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the summit of Sugarloaf (shown in a digital reconstruction at left.) Just picture that looking out from the top of Sugarloaf.

Ralph made many historical connections with FDR, Camp David, Civil War, the 1st railway system in the US, the American Chestnut Foundation, Thomas Johnson Maryland‘s first governor, and the Guggenheim Museum. He even mentioned landmarks observed in our December 5th Johnson Quarry Pop-up walks.

If you’ve ever wondered about the buildings on the property of this U.S. National Natural Landmark, you might be surprised by what you find out by watching the recorded event on our YouTube channel.
