Poolesville Seniors is taking part in the WUMCO SUMMER FOOD FOR KIDS program for local children who are not receiving free and reduced breakfast and lunch while school is out this Summer. The MCPS summer meal sites are an unreasonable distance for many families in our part of the county. Meals are available for just 30 minutes and our closest location does not offer breakfast. They require the children to be transported to the site and accompanied while eating onsite.  An absolute logistical nightmare for working parents!

Poolesville Seniors will collect 16 oz./+ jars of peanut butter, 18 oz./+ jelly, and microwaveable meal cups (microwaveable mac and cheese, ravioli, rice and pasta cups) to add to the weekly supplemental lunch-focused bags of groceries for kids which WUMCO is providing to help families fill in the gap, with the help of Hosanna Community Church and Buddhist Relief.

Our Poolesville Seniors have really stepped up and shown area youngsters that Seniors care!  But there is still another month that these kids need food before school opens. Shop the grocery sales and BOGOs and bring your items to any Poolesville Seniors event this Summer, there will be a collection box or bin labeled WUMCO SUMMER FOOD FOR KIDS sign at future  events until schools reopen at Summer’s end
