Before the tourists come in for the summer, prepare for your tour guide duties by getting a Senior SmarTrip card.
Everyone 65 or older is eligible for a Senior SmarTrip card, and as of Jan. 16, 2024, they are free–no more $2 fee for the card. You just need a photo ID, like your driver’s license or non-driver ID card and you can get one at any Montgomery County Library, including Maggie Nightingale. There is a short form to fill out. There is only one per customer.
Then enjoy half-price rides on Metrorail, Metrobus and Ride-On.
Even better, there is now a SmarTrip app you can put on your IPhone or Android. You can add funds to your card and never have to wait in line at the farecard machine ever again.
Many of us shied away from public transportation during the height of Covid, but traffic is returning, and Metro is sure less of a headache than driving.
Remember, parking in Metro lots requires a Smart Trip card, but is free on weekends and federal holidays.
See you at the station!
