04/11 The Montgomery County Department of Police is warning residents of recent scam calls in the area.
According to police sources, the scammers are posing as officers. The caller claims there is an active arrest warrant for you or a member of your family and then demands gift cards in exchange for the warrant to be dismissed.
The police will NOT call you to inform you of a warrant for your arrest and a warrant can NEVER be dismissed with the payment of gift cards!
Don’t get so rattled by this type of call that you stop thinking clearly. Take a moment to think it through.
If you receive a similar call, the police are asking you to immediately hang up and call the police non-emergency number at (301) 279-8000 to report the incident.
The police department has a telephone number to call to check and see if there is a warrant for your arrest:
You can call the Warrants Section at: 240-773-5360.
