We are grateful to Lauren Hubbard, Certified Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional and Master Gardener, for the wealth of information and beautiful photos she provided on landscaping with native Piedmont Region species, and how they support out native pollinators. Our native plants, insects and birds co-evolved and survive in dependent relationships. Large expanses of lawn are not the native environment of our area and don’t contribute to, feed or preserve the biodiversity of our native flora and fauna.
You don’t need to replace your entire lawn to help the butterflies, birds and bees. You can start with a few potted plants or use the attached guide from the Museum of Natural History for a small plot. If you are ready to tackle the whole yard, follow these National Park Service suggestions for a Maryland native ecosystem
We are lucky to have this event recorded on Facebook and our YouTube channel so you can replay it over again as a reference.
