March is National Reading Month, and the 2nd was “Read Across America Day”. While this is often thought of as a “school” issue, folks of all ages are encouraged to read regularly. In fact, reading is linked with several positive outcomes for older adults, including enhanced memory retention, sharper decision-making skills, stress reduction, better sleep, and even the delayed onset of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Not to mention the fact that it’s pleasurable, too!
If you like discussing what you have read with others and hearing their “take” on the book, you may want to consider signing up for Poolesville Seniors Book Club – register at PS! April Book Club: Magpie Murders by Andrew Horowitz – Poolesville Seniors. This month’s book is a story story-within-a-story that follows Susan Ryeland an unmarried, middle-aged editor. When she receives the latest mystery novel from their star author, the last chapter is missing. Susan searches for the missing last chapter, as she is convinced the chapter holds the clues to a series of deaths, the preservation of the publisher’s business and her own career. It is the first Susan Ryeland novel.
