On January 31st from 2:00 to 3:00, in an intergenerational event, nine Poolesville Seniors volunteers and 18 middle students from the Barnesville school worked together for a volunteer service project.
The group created and worked an assembly line to package art kits with Story Tapestries. Story Tapestries is a non-profit organization with local ties that works to inspire and motivate everyone to engage in the arts.
Over 355 art kits were assembled in Story Tapestries bags, counted and packed into boxes to be distributed to local early learning centers. Additionally, students, volunteers, and staff of Story Tapestries and the Barnesville school had the opportunity to write ‘Love Notes’ of empowerment for kids in the foster care system. These notes are shared with an organization called ‘Comfort Cases’ which provides personal belongings to kids placed in foster care.
It was an enjoyable and worthwhile afternoon for students and seniors alike.
