After more than a year of partial or total isolation you may be looking for an excuse to get outside and exercise. But you don’t need to jog, gardening is a great workout. What better way to celebrate Earth Month in April than getting your hands in the dirt?
If you are new to gardening, you can start small using containers or pots. If you are an old hand, you may find that your garden size gets smaller as you get older. Whatever your level, remember you will still reap these benefits:
- Improved balance and a steadier gait.
- Reduced risk of falls.
- Increased sharpness and motor skills.
- Increased vitamin D and bone density from exposure to natural light.
- Improved sleep cycles.
- Reduced chronic pain.
Whether you have an acre, a kitchen garden, herb garden, or flower garden always remember to share the bounty with friends, neighbors and WUMCO. Have fun in the sun and be sure to join our discussion on the Joys of Raised Bed Gardening on May 13th at 7pm.
