Thanksgiving week, November 20th to 26th is National Game and Puzzle Week. Celebrating the gatherings and homecomings of families around the country, it is a week dedicated to enjoying games and puzzles as a group. Get everyone off their devices and go old school.
Board games, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and other types of games and puzzles, and word games, are a great way to spend time with the family and unwind after Thanksgiving and other holiday celebrations.
This year Candyland and Operation are still among the highest recommended games for children, along with Richard Scarry’s Busytown. Try something different with tile placing games like Blokus, Quirkle, or Hive.
The first puzzle dates to the 1600s in Germany and the first jigsaw puzzle was an 18th century map. Puzzles and word games became an outright craze by the early 20th century, when magazines and newspapers discovered that publishing puzzle contests, such as crosswords and, more recently, sudoku and wordle, might improve their audience. We are shamelessly following their lead and providing some puzzles for your enjoyment this week.
