Have you noticed the new outdoor AED unit installed at Stevens Park on the outer wall of the maintenance building where the restrooms are located? This life saving device was installed thanks to the efforts of UMCVFD, Poolesville Seniors and the Town of Poolesville.
An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It’s a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.
In the event of a cardiac event, you should always call 911 first. In the case of this specialized outdoor AED, you will need to contact 911 and report your location at Stevens Park to get the access code for the AED unit. Each minute defibrillation is delayed, reduces the odds of survival. It is critical to have access to an AED and know how to use it properly.
The Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department will be offering free Hands-Only CPR/AED training at Stevens Park Pavilion on two Saturdays, 8/19 and 8/26, both at 9:00AM. This will not be a CPR certification class and is not intended for Health Care Professional certification. This cardiopulmonary resuscitation training will deal with:
