Join Karen Dansby and Gwen Haney on February 20th at 10:30 a.m. for a trail hike in Little Bennett Regional Park. This is a 5.5-mile hike with an elevation gain of 500+ feet. These natural trails are frequently leaf covered and include some rocky/rooted paths. There are also multiple hills. Hikers should be able to maintain a moderate pace. Good hiking shoes are recommended. Bring water and a snack. The hike should take a little over 2 hours.
The trails are forested and very serene. During the hike we will pass Allegheny Mound Ant Nests. Little Bennett Regional Park is proud to be the home to the largest population of these giant colonies in Montgomery County and the region.
We will begin our hike on Hyattstown Mill Road and Bennett Ridge Trails. After about 1.5 miles, we will do a 2.5-mile loop around Mound Builder and Ant Ridge trails, then return as we started.
Directions: From Poolesville on Rt. 109, turn right onto Rt. 355 and a short left onto Hyattstown Mill Road, next to the Hyattstown fire station. Drive about 100 yards to the end.
