Loading Events

Join Karen Dansby and Gwen Haney on Thursday, July 18th at 9:00 a.m. at Black Hills Regional Park, lot #2. The parking lot is on the left off Lake Ridge Drive (about 1.6 miles from the front entrance). Rain date will be July 25th. We will cross the road and hike Hamilton Trail to Cabin Branch Trail, loop back to Hamilton Trail which runs into Hard Rock Trail and ending on Black Hill Trail to the parking lot.  There are restrooms near parking lot #2. The trail is 5.5 miles and if we maintain a moderate pace, it should take 2 1/2 hours.  The trail is packed-dirt, tree roots and rocks.  Please arrive at the parking lot 10 minutes before our scheduled start time of 9 am.  Bring water and a snack, if you like.

Directions: Follow signs to go east on West Old Baltimore Road. In 0.9 miles turn right to go south on Lake Ridge Drive, which is the entrance for the park.  Lot #2 is about 1.6 miles from the entrance on the left.

Karen Dansby was born and raised in Arlington, VA. She spent 20+ years in eastern Kentucky, then retired to Sedona, AZ. Karen participated in trail maintenance in Sedona, hiked and participated in Preventive Search and Rescue for almost 10 years at the South and North Rim of the Grand Canyon.  She moved back to Poolesville to be close to family.

Gwen Haney grew up in rural PA but did most of her hiking while living in Arizona, in the mountains and canyons of the southwest. She moved to Maryland 17 years ago to be near family and continues to enjoy being outdoors and on trails.

Watch for other hikes in and around Montgomery County for Poolesville Seniors.  Once a month Gwen Haney and Karen Dansby will lead/tailgate a hike for Poolesville Seniors.  The hikes will be 4-6 miles and last approximately 2-3 hours.  A description will be given of the monthly hike with hiking recommendations.
