More than two centuries before the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, British forces captured Washington and burned the Capitol during the War of 1812. Join local writer Steve Vogel in-person on May 24th at 7pm when the author of THROUGH THE PERILOUS FIGHT: From the Burning of Washington to the Star-Spangled Banner (Random House), will bring to life the story of the British capture of Washington in 1814, the fight for Baltimore and the story behind the National Anthem. Steve will provide details about the burning of the Capitol and offer comparisons to the 2021 attack. In his career he covered the fall of the Berlin Wall and the first Gulf War, the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon and its subsequent reconstruction, and reported on military operations in Somalia, Rwanda, the Balkans, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
