The award-winning author of Station Eleven, brings us an exhilarating novel set at the glittering intersection of two seemingly disparate events–a massive Ponzi scheme collapse and the mysterious disappearance of a woman from a ship at sea. It is a novel with themes of human fallibility, guilt and complicity, wealth, greed and happiness.
Described as a jigsaw puzzle without a box, the novel was inspired by the Madoff Ponzi scheme and the actions of those who remained complicit for so long. The characters are crisply drawn and witty but not particularly likable. In total the interwoven stories are gripping.
Canadian author and essayist Emily St. John Mandel is the 2015 winner of the Arthur C. Clarke Award. Her novels are largely known to be socially conscious thrillers and crime novels. She also writes about contemporary issues of the time. She is the author of six novels, her most recent being Sea of Tranquility.
