Join us October 25, 2021  @7pm   for our next book club! In his non-fiction novel, The Boys in the Boat, Daniel James Brown recounts the story of the University of Washington’s 1936 eight-oar rowing team that stunned the world at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. This emotional story focuses on one rower, Joe Rantz, a teenager without family or prospects, who rows to regain his shattered self-regard and to find a place to call home. The novel draws on the diaries and journals of the boys in the rowing crew, as well as their photos and memories of this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Daniel James Brown, born in Berkeley California in 1951, grew up in the San Francisco Bay area.  After earning his Master of Arts Degree from UCLA, he taught writing at San Jose State University and Stanford.  He then became a technical writer and editor.  He is currently a fulltime writer of narrative non-fiction novels.  His latest novel, Facing the Mountain, is a true story of Japanese American heroes in World War II.  He now resides outside of Seattle Washington with his wife and children and an assortment of dogs, cats, chickens and honeybees.
