Join Jon Wolz at Great Falls Tavern on January 5 at 10:30 a.m. for a 3.5-mile hike. Jon will lead the group up the hill behind Lock 19 to the Overlook Trail. The group will head along the hillside, down to the Canal, crossing the Canal at the winch house, walk down to lock 16, and then back up the towpath to the entrance to the trail for Olmstead Island. After walking out and viewing the falls, we will return to Great Falls Tavern and the parking lot.
There are a few spots where a walking stick might be handy. For entrance to the park, please bring your senior, annual, or individual pass. Otherwise, the Great Falls Park entrance fee is $20 per vehicle.
Dogs are not allowed on the Olmstead Island Trail. We will stay socially distant, and facemasks are optional.
