Join Mark Israel of Query Mill Farm in North Potomac, and Jennifer Freeman of Peas and Peace Farm in Poolesville on April 22 at 7 pm when they discuss their second careers in small scale farming in the MoCo Ag Reserve. Hear all about the areas’ growing small scale farm movement and its innovative response to local food insecurity during the pandemic.
Mark Israel began farming Query Mill Farm nearly forty years ago during his career solving urban problems with the U.S. Conference of Mayors. The CSA farm, which dates to the 1700s, is one of the last of the older generation of local small farms and uses a regenerative approach to improve the soil and the environment.
Jennifer Freeman came to Peas and Peace Farm over five years ago after a fifteen-year career in international development and microfinance. She is a founder of Community FarmShare, a local organization, which makes it possible to sponsor a family with a weekly bag of diverse, nutritious fruits and vegetables from a local, small scale farm during the Spring to Fall growing season.
