Now that the Primary election is over, your political campaign signs can continue to perform a public service. You can help honeybees and the environment by recycling those corrugated signs for reuse by a beekeeper! The desired signs are made of thick, corrugated, weather-resistant plastic/cardboard, which, when trimmed to fit beehives, can be used in a variety of ways to help honeybees survive.
They can be used as separators in the hive. The corrugated construction makes them great insulators for the hive in the winter. The signs can protect hives from invasive pests. Some beekeepers fill the open cells in the signs with natural oils and apple cider vinegar and place them in the bottom of the hive to trap beetles and keep them away from the honeybees.
The bees don’t care what party the signs represent. So, please keep these uniquely usable signs out of the landfill and save them for a local beekeeper like Joe Long. Joe has enlisted John Speelman and Poolesville Hardware in his collection effort. John has generously offered to accept and collect the signs at the hardware store for reuse. Just bring them in and help the bees and the environment!
