Thank you to Jon Wolz for leading our group on a Saturday walk on the C&O towpath in search of Virginia Bluebells. The weather was perfect for a hike on the canal towpath to see the bluebells and other spring flowers in bloom. Jon met us at the parking lot of Whites Ferry, we made our way to the towpath and headed north. It wasn’t long before we spotted the first flowers, white “Dutchman’s Britches” and soon after began to spot bluebells.

Jon identified several other plants for us and then led us to an entire spectacular field of bluebells on the riverside of the towpath. He encouraged us to continue further up the track to a point where for a quarter mile, the bluebells lined both sides of the path. Altogether, the walk was level and very smooth, taking only about 90 minutes there and back to White’s Ferry. Keep watching for future C&O Canal Walks.
