Join Katie Longbrake, Executive Director of WUMCO Help on May 5th at 7 pm to hear more about this multi-services entity, that has been serving a diversity of emergency assistance needs in the Poolesville area for over 50 years.  It is an exciting time for WUMCO – They will be moving to a larger space and are looking to expand their services to the community.  Zoom in to learn about WUMCO’s expanded vision to serve those in need in our community, and how you might like to be involved!

Katie Longbrake has been the Executive Director since September 2019 of WUMCO Help, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to providing quick and friendly emergency assistance to needy residents of Western Upper Montgomery County, Maryland–the postal districts of Poolesville 20837, Barnesville 20838, Beallsville 20839, Boyds 20841, and Dickerson 20842.

Katie has roots in Beallsville that go back generations. She has lived elsewhere but moved back with her family in 2013. Along the way, Katie attended the College of Wooster in Ohio, worked as Director of Youth Ministries at a church in Tallahassee, FL, obtained a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Louisville Theological Seminary, and started a family. They lived for a while in western Pennsylvania, where she was a local activist as well as co-founding a thriving farmers market.

Since moving back to Beallsville, Katie has been active volunteering in the local community, including running the Just Lunch program at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.  In her years at WUMCO Katie has expanded WUMCO’s services to meet the needs of the community during a pandemic.  This included organizing volunteers to deliver school meals to children during pandemic school shutdowns as well as volunteers who assisted community members with obtaining covid vaccine appointments.  Katie’s vision for WUMCO’s future includes the upcoming move to a bigger space which will allow WUMCO to offer more assistance, expanding preventative services, and an examination on how to better meet physical and mental health needs in our area.
