The Poolesville Seniors’ Heart ‘n Soul auction will give you an opportunity to acquire a beautiful work by area artist David Yontz. The traditional watercolor artistry of David Yontz paintings has preserved the architectural history of many Frederick County scenes brought to life with a touch of nostalgia

David Yontz, a prominent Maryland artist, was born in Brunswick and lived in Jefferson, Md. He was a decorated Vietnam War veteran.  He often painted by commission.

When David was 9, a broken leg left him in traction for 6 months and started his life-long avocation as an artist. While in the hospital, David began to paint, and he continued for his lifetime. He attended the prestigious Maryland Institute College of Art where his education was interrupted by the Vietnam War.

He served with the United States Army and was a Vietnam War veteran. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal (4 campaigns), the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 device, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.

After the war, he graduated from what was then Towson State University with a degree in fine arts and visual communications. He found his career as a high-styled New York design commission artist “artistically frustrating”. He returned to Frederick, joined the Lisbon Post Office and eventually became the Postmaster.

David and his wife Vicki added an artist studio to their Jefferson home, which he filled with his passion for old buildings, snow scenes and scenes of twilight and dusk interpreted in the crisp colors of watercolor paints. He was an active member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and well-known for his artwork of local and regional scenes and landmarks. David succumbed to cancer in 2004, unable to complete the many commissions he still received.
