Trail Hike: Woodstock Equestrian Park

Loading Events

Please join Karen Dansby and Gwen Haney on Thursday November 14 at 9:30 AM at The Woodstock Equestrian Special Park in the scenic Agricultural Reserve just north of Beallsville.  The park consists of 872 acres of rolling farmland and forest. There are 16 miles of equestrian and hiking trails.  This trail is a beautiful hike in grasses, fields and trees. There are two small areas that have some rocks and gravel, but otherwise there is a wide beautiful trail.  Only one minor creek crossing that is a piece of cake.  The trails are used by equestrians and hikers.  (There is horse poop)

We will begin at Big Woods Loop Trail >High Point Trail>Fields Edge-Potomac Hunt trail>Potomac Hunt trail, cross Route 28 and begin on Meadow Loop Trail then Two Bridges Trail >Greensburg Challenge Loop Trail>back across Route 28 and to the parking lot.  The trail is 5.4 miles in length with an elevation gain of 490 feet. Rain date is November 21, 2024.  Please arrive at the parking lot 10 minutes before our scheduled start time of 9:30 am. Bring water and a snack, if you like.

Directions: Take Route 28 and 1 mile from the traffic light at the junction of Route 28 and Route 109 (Beallsville Rd) make a RIGHT at the Woodstock Equestrian Park (Not a left). Go up the gravel road and look for a sign for “Visitors Parking.” There is a bathroom at the trailhead with plenty of parking.  20207 Darnestown Road.

Karen Dansby was born and raised in Arlington, VA. She spent 20+ years in eastern Kentucky, then retired to Sedona, AZ. Karen participated in trail maintenance in Sedona, hiked and participated in Preventive Search and Rescue for almost 10 years at the South and North Rim of the Grand Canyon.  She moved back to Poolesville to be close to family.

Gwen Haney grew up in rural PA but did most of her hiking while living in Arizona, in the mountains and canyons of the southwest. She moved to Maryland 17 years ago to be near family and continues to enjoy being outdoors and on trails.

Watch for other hikes in and around Montgomery County for Poolesville Seniors.  Once a month Gwen Haney and Karen Dansby will lead/tailgate a hike for Poolesville Seniors.  The hikes will be 4-6 miles and last approximately 2-3 hours.  A description will be given of the monthly hike with hiking recommendations.
