Trail Hike: Bucklodge Conservation Park to Ten Mile Creek Conservation Park

Loading Events

Join Gwen Haney and Karen Dansby on Thursday April 11th at 9:30 a.m. for a trail hike in the Barnesville area. This will be a 5.7-mile hike starting at the Bucklodge Conservation Park Trailhead on Slidell Road. We will proceed through the upper part of the Ten Mile Creek Conservation Park on the Jewel Weed Way Trail then loop around the Danger Noodle Trail. The trail is packed dirt with fallen leaves and minimal roots and rocks. It has 436 feet of elevation gain. There are 6 rock crossings over small creeks and some (not too bad) muddiness on parts of the trail.  We will also bushwack for about 100 yards to connect our loop. We will maintain a moderate pace and should complete the hike within 2.5 hours.  Boots are recommended. Rain date 4/18.

Directions: From Rt. 28 at Lewis Orchard, take Peach Tree Road east for 1/2 mile.  Turn right onto West Old Baltimore and go 1 mile to the first stop sign.  Turn left onto Slidell Road (but there is no street sign) and go 1 mile.  Trailhead is on the left (big sign, can’t miss it).

Karen Dansby was born and raised in Arlington, VA. She spent 20+ years in eastern Kentucky, then retired to Sedona, AZ. Karen participated in trail maintenance in Sedona, hiked and participated in Preventive Search and Rescue for almost 10 years at the South and North Rim of the Grand Canyon.  She moved back to Poolesville to be close to family.

Gwen Haney grew up in rural PA but did most of her hiking while living in Arizona, in the mountains and canyons of the southwest. She moved to Maryland 17 years ago to be near family and continues to enjoy being outdoors and on trails.

Watch for other hikes in and around Montgomery County for Poolesville Seniors.  Once a month Gwen Haney and Karen Dansby will lead/tailgate a hike for Poolesville Seniors.  The hikes will be 4-6 miles and last approximately 2-3 hours.  A description will be given of the monthly hike with hiking recommendations.
