A Historical Walking Tour of Riley’s Lock/Seneca Aqueduct narrated by Jon Wolz
On this narrated historical walking tour of Riley’s Lock/Seneca Aqueduct, you will learn about the history of the C&O Canal from someone who testified before Congress about preserving the Canal. You will visit the stone cutting mill, historic culvert #35 – Bull Run, Lock 23 – Violette’s Lock, Interlock #2, and the stone ruins of an old Rushville house. The walk is 3.5 miles.

Guided Hike to Maryland’s Biggest Tree
Did you know Maryland’s biggest tree is in Dickerson Conservation Park – but there are no signs to lead you to it. Nature enthusiast, Ralph Buglass, who led a tree ID hike for Poolesville Seniors this past fall, will take you and of group of friends to see this stately sycamore tree, located between the C&O Canal and the Potomac River. You will also see the nearby county champion cottonwood and silver maple trees. You will meet in the parking lot of Dickerson Conservation Park on a mutually agreed date and time for a hike of approximately 1.5 miles and taking approximately 1.5 hours
On March 7th, join local historian and Poolesville resident, Skip Etheridge on at 7:00 p.m. at Speer Hall for an in depth look at the African American communities that surround Poolesville. Come learn about the history of these communities and how they impacted our Town and Nation!
Or enjoy a presentation from Montgomery Parks. The lecture series for adult audiences will feature local historians, educators and more as they share their knowledge of local and regional history. Each event will feature a new subject with a presentation that may include video, slide shows or other interpretive aides. Arrive early and take a self-guided tour of Josiah Henson and Park. Doors open at 5pm.
On March 7th, there will be a presentation for Women’s History Month by Dr. Iyelli Ichile, the Director of the African American Studies Institute at Prince George’s Community College. This is an adult program and will take place at the Josiah Henson Museum and Park visitor center. Refreshments provided. Admission, $5 per person.
