Join local historian and Poolesville resident, Skip Etheridge on March 7th at 7:00 p.m. at Speer Hall for an in depth look at the African American communities that surround Poolesville.  Come learn about the history of these communities and how they impacted our Town and Nation!  

James M. (Skip) Etheridge is a 30-year resident of Poolesville/Sugarland. He is a direct descendant of former freed slaves who migrated and settled in the area in the early 1800’s. Mr. Etheridge is a retired Maryland State Police Officer and former member of the Command staff for the Georgetown University Campus Police. He is winding up his career with Montgomery County Public Schools as a Security Team Leader at Poolesville High School. He has given talks on the history of Sugarland and the other African American communities surrounding the Town of Poolesville for many years.
