Did you know that Montgomery County has its own Sports Hall of Fame? In 2019, the group inducted the first Hall of Fame class which included Walter “The Big Train” Johnson of the Washington Senators, (as a player from 1907 to 1927 and a manager from 1929 to 1932).
The Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame MCSHF is a 501(c)3 non-profit created to honor the men and women that, through sports, have brought pride and honor to the County. MCSHF preserves the memory and achievements of its inductees and serves the community by supporting programs and activities sponsored by the Hall of Fame to foster principles of good sportsmanship, tolerance, and leadership.
The individuals honored are reflections of the dedication and devotion of many people who love sports. Nominations can be offered by any resident for consideration.
The new 2023 class features county natives who have achieved at the national and international levels, as well as local figures who are among the very best at what they have done in and for Montgomery County.
The 2023 class includes:
- US national soccer star Joanna Lohman (Springbrook)
- TV sportscaster and host Scott Van Pelt (Sherwood)
- Tennis player and coach Harold Solomon (Springbrook)
