We have learned with great sadness that former founding member of Poolesville Seniors, Gene Bennett, has passed away. From the time Poolesville Seniors started as the Gathering Place in 2012, until 2016 when we gained nonprofit status as Poolesville Area Senior Center, Inc., Gene played a critical part in guiding those transitions. He was a shrewd businessman of few words who ensured that the organization met the legal requirements for the organization to operate at an optimum level. He installed a financial accounting system and established an Office of Administration.
He was our first President and his direct, take-charge style of governance drove his passion to provide seniors in the Upper Western Montgomery County area with those opportunities enjoyed by seniors elsewhere in the County. His dedication to Poolesville Seniors continued even after his resignation with financial and verbal support. ‘Mr. Chairman’ was respected by his Steering Committee peers, and his mentoring techniques made a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to have worked with him.
