SUMMARY:Trail Hike: Seneca Creek State Park
DESCRIPTION:Join Gwen Haney and Karen Dansby for a trail hike on Tuesday October 17th at 10:15 a.m. exploring Seneca Creek State Park. The circumnavigational hike is 5 miles long and takes about 2 hours. The trail is packed dirt with tree roots.  The trees along Long Draught Trail are wonderful. The vistas of Clopper Lake are beautiful.  Perhaps fall colors will be a treat. Boots are recommended as there are tree roots. Water and a snack are also advised. Some up and down hills\, no rock scrambles.  Easy to moderate hike.   \nWe will meet at Kingfisher Overlook (parking). There is currently no entrance fee for the park.  \nDirections: The entrance to Seneca Creek State Park is on Clopper Road. Drive 1 mile and park on the left at Kingfisher Overlook. This will be our meeting point. We will hike from Kingfisher Overlook to Long Draught Trail (Yellow Blaze)>Mink Hollow Trail (White Blaze)>Lake Shore Trail (Blue Blaze).   \nPark Trail Map   \nRain Date: October 19th. Watch the web site and your email for information in case of inclement weather.  \nWatch for other hikes in and around Montgomery County for Poolesville Seniors.  Once a month Gwen Haney and Karen Dansby will lead/tailgate a hike for Poolesville Seniors.  The hikes will be 4-6 miles and last approximately 2-3 hours.  A description will be given of the monthly hike with hiking recommendations.  \n  \nKaren Dansby was born and raised in Arlington\, VA. She spent 20+ years in eastern Kentucky\, then retired to Sedona\, AZ. Karen participated in trail maintenance in Sedona\, hiked and participated in Preventive Search and Rescue for almost 10 years at the South and North Rim of the Grand Canyon.  She moved back to Poolesville to be close to family.   \nGwen Haney grew up in rural PA but did most of her hiking while living in Arizona\, in the mountains and canyons of the southwest. DESCRIPTION:Join Poolesville Seniors on October 6th at 6:00 p.m. for Friday Night Polo at the Seneca Polo Club in Poolesville\, MD. Experience this state-of-the-art Ag Reserve treasure and meet up for a friendly one-hour pre-match social gathering when the gates open at 6:00 p.m. Register and carpool with friends and neighbors. Relax with a cool drink and your own picnic on the grassy hill prior to the match. (Adult beverages permitted)   \nWe have arranged for you to learn about this ancient game with a short "Intro to Polo" from Seneca Polo Club. Get up close and personal with one of the polo ponies at halftime.    \nThe polo match lasts 1 ½ – 2 hours and begins at 7:00 p.m. Wear appropriate shoes for walking near horses. The viewing areas are on an adjacent grassy hill\, or down some stairs to the viewing stand next to the field. The bathroom is up a step in the Club House. Anyone with mobility issues is welcome but should be accompanied by an assistant. Directions will be provided with registration.
