SUMMARY:Historic Ag Reserve Properties with Kenny Sholes
DESCRIPTION:Join Poolesville Seniors on March 21st @7pm for the next Historic Ag Reserve Properties presentation with local historian Kenny Sholes. The lands around us have played an important part in American history over the last few centuries. The fields we pass through each day have spurred economic development\, been the scene of battles\, provided escape from the pace of daily life\, and brought families together at the dinner table. Dotting this landscape is an array of impressive historic homes – standing as visual reminders of those who came before us.   \nIn this bi-monthly series\, Kenny introduces some of the incredible historic homes in the Agricultural Reserve\, using the history of the homes to better understand the people whose land we have inherited and how their dreams\, goals\, and struggles were not all that different from ours today.   \nRegister on our website now or check back to get more details on this month's event at (insert link to registration) Look for Kenny in July\, September\, and November. \nKenny Sholes was born and raised in Poolesville\, in the heart of the Agricultural Reserve. After graduating from West Point in 2006\, Kenny served as a US Army officer for five years\, to include two deployments to Iraq. Kenny is the creator of Foundry Admissions Strategies\, a small consultancy focused on helping high school students in rural America gain admission to our country's best colleges. Now living in Poolesville with his wife and two children\, Kenny is busy exploring Agricultural Reserve history and serves as a board member for the Montgomery Countryside Alliance. Kenny has an undergraduate degree in Economics from the US Military Academy at West Point\, and a Master's degree in Public Policy from Princeton University. \nHistoric Ag Reserve Properties

SUMMARY:March PS! Book Club: The Lost Bookshop
DESCRIPTION:Join the PS! Book Club virtually on March 18th at 7:00 p.m. when we discuss The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods. On a quiet street in Dublin\, a lost bookstore is waiting to be found…  \nWhen a vanishing bookshop casts its spell\, three unsuspecting strangers\, Opaline\, Martha\, and Henry\, will discover that their own stories are every bit as extraordinary as the ones found in the pages of their beloved books. By unlocking the secrets of the shelves\, they find themselves transported to a world of wonder … where nothing is as it seems.  \n448 pages\, Paperback  \nFirst published November 7\, 2023  \nEvie Woods is the author of The Lost Bookshop\, the #1 Wall Street Journal and Amazon Kindle and Sunday Times bestseller\, which has now sold over half a million copies. She is also the author of The Story Collector\, The Heirloom and The Mysterious Bakery On Rue De Paris under her real name\, Evie Gaughan. \nLiving on the West Coast of Ireland\, Evie escapes the inclement weather by writing her stories in a converted attic\, where she dreams of underfloor heating. Her books tread the intriguing line between the everyday and the otherworldly\, revealing the magic that exists in our ordinary lives.  \nPS! Book Club: The Lost Bookshop\n

SUMMARY:Trail Hike: Seneca Creek Greenway to Berryville
DESCRIPTION:Join Gwen Haney and Karen Dansby on Thursday March 14th at 10:30 a.m. for a trail hike along Seneca Creek on the Seneca-Greenway Trail. We will meet for this straightforward 5-mile hike at the MD 28 Trailhead Parking Lot (near the intersection of Rt 107 and Rt 28) at 10:30 am.  The hike is about 5 miles with an elevation gain of 187 feet.  It should take about 2 hours. For the first 10 minutes of the hike\, we may be annoyed by the noise of traffic on Route 28.  Then we will hike at a moderate pace\, parallel to Seneca Creek as it goes meandering. It is quiet and delightful.  Boots and a snack are recommended.  The tread is full of leaves and packed dirt with minimal roots and rocks.   \nDirections: Drive east from Poolesville on Route 28 about a quarter of a mile past the Route 28-Route 107 junction\, cross the bridge over Seneca Creek. Turn left into the parking lot on the left that has spaces for 15-20 cars.  We will meet there at 10:30 am\, walk under the bridge and hike along Seneca Creek on the Seneca-Greenway Trail.  \n  Karen Dansby was born and raised in Arlington\, VA. She spent 20+ years in eastern Kentucky\, then retired to Sedona\, AZ. Karen participated in trail maintenance in Sedona\, hiked and participated in Preventive Search and Rescue for almost 10 years at the South and North Rim of the Grand Canyon.  She moved back to Poolesville to be close to family.   \nGwen Haney grew up in rural PA but did most of her hiking while living in Arizona\, in the mountains and canyons of the southwest. She moved to Maryland 17 years ago to be near family and continues to enjoy being outdoors and on trails.   \nWatch for other hikes in and around Montgomery County for Poolesville Seniors.  Once a month Gwen Haney and Karen Dansby will lead/tailgate a hike for Poolesville Seniors.  The hikes will be 4-6 miles and last approximately 2-3 hours.  A description will be given of the monthly hike with hiking recommendations.  \nTrail Hike: Seneca Creek Greenway to Berryville
